Jenni Carlson's column in the Daily Oklahoman

Mr. Gundy's not going to back down

Shut up!

By now, everyone heard the blundering bafoon known as Mike Gundy waste reporters' time by crying at a news conference how important his former starting quarterback is.

It's high time to wake up. Gundy has to realize that the university should be completely embarrassed to have that gasbag on staff. If he's this thin-skinned when a Mommy comes in his office and complains about a newspaper column, what's he going to do when the Cowboys lose?

Daily Oklahoman columnist Jenni Carlson's piece was a tad weak in that it lacked necessary evidence to support some of her claims. However, if she acquired said information from reliable sources, she should be commended for taking the heat in front of all her colleagues while Gundy pointed directly at her.

This isn't the first time a coach has been upset at a member of the media. However, there are ways to handle it. If Gundy had any tact, he would have phoned Carlson and had a one-on-one chat in his office, instead of lacing into her and questioning whether she has children.

Oklahoma State should fine Gundy severely for this. If I was an OSU player, I would be pissed as well. Instead of talking about a dramatic 49-45 Big XII win over Texas Tech, the team is getting laughed at around the nation because they are playing under a coach that can't his mouth shut.

Enough is enough

Yes 15 starters are gone, not to mention a stud quarterback (Brady Quinn), wide receiver (Jeff Samardzija) and running back (Darius Walker).
The only remaining leader on the team is a boxer that plays in the secondary.

If you haven't figured out by now, I'm talking about Notre Dame. The Irish have all but lost their fight as they fell to 0-4 this afternoon. with a punishing defeat at the hands of Michigan State.

Crewcut Charlie still has no idea, although I will applaud him for having the courage to answer every one of the media questions.

How much more is the Notre Dame brass going to put up with? Weis will get a free pass this year because they have the bloated self-proclaimed genius locked up for 10 years.

However, when will the blame start to fall on Weis? People can easily point the finger at Tyrone Willingham -- who's probably laughing himself silly -- but this is Weis's third season. Even in Willingham's third season, he managed a 6-6 record and squeaked out an Insight Bowl appearance.

The only bowl Weis will be welcomed to this year is the round, porcelain kind.

Play someone

You'd think the University of Wisconsin would figure it out after all these years. But they continually scheduling cream puffs and now that they are a legit contender this year, their national ranking has gone the past two weeks.

National writers don't feel all warm and fuzzy if you barely escape UNLV, and then see the Runnin' Rebels get trounced by Hawaii 49-14 the very next week.

Barry Alvarez has to start taking some chances. Roll the dice. Now would be a good time to see if Bret Bielema can back up his venom he spewed at Notre Dame for getting a BCS bid last year.

The reason why Michigan and Ohio State are always considered the cream of the Big Ten year in and year out is because they play a hellish schedule. The Wolverines always get Notre Dame and Ohio State usually tackles one tough BCS nonconference foe every year.

I know, the Badgers did face Washington State to start the season, but that's nothing more than left coast Northwestern.

The Badgers have been preaching about getting national respect for winning back-to-back Capital One bowls. Now it's time to go out and start playing someone.
